Douglas S. Rodgers, 73, of Christiansburg, formerly of Staunton, departed this life to his Heavenly home on Saturday, May 21, 2011. He was preceded in death by his wife, Liler Phlegar Rodgers; father, Robert R. Rodgers; and sisters, Carolyn Snyder and Peggy Taylor.

Mr. Rodgers was retired from the Staunton NewsLeader and the Roanoke Times and was a US Army Veteran. He was a member and Deacon of the Merrimac Pentecostal Holiness Church.

He is survived by his dear special friend, Charlene Huff Keen; mother, Gladys Rankin Rodgers; sister, Nancy Cupp; brother, Robert “Bobbie” Rodgers; several nieces and nephews; and very special friends, Mitchell Dowdy and Malcum Woolwine.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, May 23, 2011 at the Merrimac Pentecostal Holiness Church, Blacksburg. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 24, 2011 at Merrimac Pentecostal Holiness Church with the Rev. Glennard R. Quesenberry and the Rev. R. D. Vaught officiating. Interment will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens in Roanoke.
