Mary “Sue” Stump Riggs, 81 of Pembroke, Virginia departed this life on Saturday, December 24, 2022 to be with Jesus. Born on October 30,1941 to Everett Andrew and Virginia Elizabeth Kelly Stump. She married her husband, Bill on September 17, 1956.

Sue, as she was known to everyone, was a lifelong Giles County resident and was loved by all who knew her. Sue loved gardening, whether she was working in the flower beds or in the vegetable gardens. She could grow the most beautiful roses and would can the food she would harvest. She always made sure to have food available for anyone who needed it. On any given day, Sue would be found in the kitchen preparing food for her large family. She was especially known for her cornbread, chicken dumplin’s, and fresh apple cake.

Sue is preceded in death by her parents; husband Arthur William Riggs “Bill”; son, William Gerald Riggs; daughter, Lori Anne Riggs Stafford; sister, Mildred Stump Long; and brother, James W. (Jimmy) Stump.

Sue is survived by her sons, Dennis Riggs (Anita) of Pearisburg; Gregory Riggs of Pembroke; daughters, Brenda Hall (David) of Salem; Rebecca Johnston (Jay) of Pembroke; Drema Davis of Pembroke; Connie Smith of Christiansburg; son-in-law, Brian Stafford of Bear Springs; brothers, Walter “Bubber” Stump, Darrell Stump (Sheila), Freddie Stump (Gloria), and Gary Stump; a sister, Sandie Stump Parker (Eric); 13 grandchildren; and 30 great-grandchildren.

There will be a funeral service conducted on Friday, December 30, 2022 at 1:00 PM in the Kendall Funeral Home Chapel with Pastors Earl Riggs and Eddie Kendall officiating. Funeral services will conclude at Birchlawn Burial Park. The family will receive friends in the Kendall Funeral Home Chapel on Friday, December 30, 2022 from 12:00 PM until 1:00 PM.
