Luther C. (Luke) Riggins, Jr., 87, of 129 Avery Street, Narrows, Va. died Friday, September 11, 2009 at a Pearisburg, Va. hospital. Mr. Riggins was born in Bluefield, W.Va. on June 26, 1922.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served in World War II. He retired in 1982 from N&W Railway and was of the Protestant faith. Mr. Riggins loved to play golf and was a member of Castle Rock Golf Club in Pembrook. He was also an active member of the Hunting and Fishing Club in Green Valley.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Barbara Jean Riggins, his parents, Luther C. Riggins, Sr. and Virginia Dooley Riggins, one sister, Louise Riggins Eaton and two brothers, Dave Riggins and John Riggins.

Survivors include his wife, Clara Blanch Suppee Riggins, of the home; one daughter, Clara Darlene Reynolds and her husband, Larry T. Reynolds, of Narrows, Va.; siblings, Mason Riggins and his wife, Helen, of Maryland, Paul Riggins and his wife, Ann, of Maryland, Joann McGraw, of Pearisburg, Va., Mary Webb and her husband, James, of Rich Creek, Va. and Alma Robertson, of Narrows, Va.; and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends at Mercer Funeral Home on Sunday evening, September 13, 2009 from 6 until 8 p.m. Graveside services will be conducted on Monday, September 14, 2009 at 2 p.m. at Monte Vista Park Cemetery in Green Valley, with the Rev. Jim Pickens officiating. Military graveside rites will be conducted by the West Virginia Honor Guard. Those wishing to attend the service are asked to meet at the cemetery by 2 p.m.
