Riddle, Timothy Dayton
Timothy Dayton (Smoke) Riddle, 46, of Narrows, went home peacefully on Sunday, December 30, 2007. He was born on January 5, 1961, and was the son of Nancy Smith Riddle of Narrows and the late Walter (Bill) Riddle. In addition to his beloved father, he was also preceded in death by his “Maw Maw,” Melvina Smith.
He was a 1979 Narrows High School graduate, and served in the United States Army from 1979 through 1984 serving as a radio teletype operator at Fort Gordon, Ga., Fort Hood, Texas, and Eater Oberstein-Strasburg Concern, Germany. He received the Army Achievement Medal while serving with the 108th Military Intelligence Battalion C Company. He was a former employee of Celanese Acetate in Narrows and the Radford Army Ammunition Plant.
A lifelong resident of Narrows, he spent most of his time on the New River, doing what he loved, camping and fishing. Timmy was a free spirit and loved nature, animals and the mountains of Giles County.
He leaves behind to cherish his memories his loving mother, Nancy Smith Riddle; two sisters, Billie Denise Nunley and husband, Tony, of Narrows, and Teresa Deanna Riddle, of Narrows; one brother, Terry Melvin Riddle, in Cohoes, N.Y.; several nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles; a very special friend, Mary Neice, of Pearisburg; and his “babies,” his beloved dogs, Max, Sam and Marina; and a cat, Prissy.
Timmy leaves behind a very big hole in all our hearts that we will never be able to fill. But we take comfort in knowing that his wonderful free spirit is flying with the angels now. He is already deeply missed by all of us who knew and loved him.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, January 3, 2008, at 2 p.m. in the Chapel of Riffe’s Funeral Service in Narrows with the Rev. Eddie Kendall officiating.
