Elizabeth K. Richardson, 84, a 22 year resident of Warm Hearth Village, Blacksburg, died December 14, 2006. Betty was born December 30, 1921 in Rocky Mount, N.C., daughter of the late Daniel L. and Madelyn P. Knowles.

She was predeceased by her husband, Dr. John D. Richardson, a USN pilot and Business Management Professor; her sister, Madelyn Adams; and heir daughter, Ann R. Henderson. She is survived by her daughter, Kathryn L. Martinson; and her grandchildren, Brad Henderson, Katie Leonard, and Matthew and Justin Martinson. Betty leaves behind a wide circle of friends who became her family.

She will be remembered for her willingness to give of herself to others and her love of life. Betty taught English in China, was a pilot and member of the Ninety-Nines and flew in the Powder Puff Derby. She was an avid gardener who loved to share her produce, a volunteer at Montgomery Regional Hospital, and a Red Cross volunteer who worked at the local blood bank. She played the piano and organ and was a member of the Blacksburg Master Chorale, who performed selections from the Messiah at her Memorial Service held at Warm Hearth Village, December 17, 2006. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

Graveside services will be conducted in the Pineview Cemetery, Rocky Mount, N.C. in 2007. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to Warm Hearth Village.
