Rich, Kathleen R.

Kathleen R. Rich, a true Southern lady with a zest for life, passed away April 5, 2012, in Blacksburg, with family by her side. Affectionately known as “Teen”, she was born on June 15, 1915, in Columbus, Ga. She was preceded in death by her mother, Lucy Mitcham Roberts; and her younger sister, Barbara Kelly. Teen graduated from Columbus High School, then married and moved to Tallahassee, Fla., where she raised her two daughters, Lou Rich Long and Cheryl Rich Cliett. When her daughter Lou attended Florida State University, Teen enrolled herself in the university. She graduated in 1965, with honors, earning a degree in Home Economics. On September 19, 1948, she was baptized in the First Baptist Church, where she remained a faithful member for 64 years. Teen often taught children and performed in the choir and church plays. Teen was also active in the Tallahassee community, serving as President of the Tallahassee Women’s Club (1960 to 1962), a member of the Camellia Garden Circle, the D.A.R., the Tallahassee Music Guild, and the Colonial Dames of the 17th Century. She is survived by her two daughters, Lou Long and Cheryl Cliett; her son-in-law Gary Cliett; her niece, Rebecca Kelly, of Columbus, Ga.; grandson, Don Long (Valerie), of Charlottesville; grandson, Doug Long, of Atlanta, Ga.; granddaughter, Traci Cliett Scott (Brian), of Charlotte, N.C.; and five great-grandsons: Wil, Ben, Charlie, Davis, and Landon. A family service celebrating her life was held on Easter Sunday, April 8, 2012, in Columbus, Ga., at the McMullen Funeral Home. The service was planned and delivered by her niece, daughters, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. The family would like to express special thanks to her caregivers Traci Burke, Shirley Lockhart, Lois Hubbard, Samantha McNeil, Whitney Graham, and Debbie Dobbins.
