Frances Alma Rice, 83, formerly of Pembroke, departed this life Monday evening, August 20, 2007 at Giles Memorial Hospital in Pearisburg after a long illness.

Born in Nemours, W.Va. on September 28, 1923. She was a daughter of the late Alma Slaughter Tate and Arthur Tate. She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ. "Frankie", as she was affectionately known, had made her home for some time in the loving care of her son and daughter-in-law at their home at Peterstown, W.Va .

She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, William Watha Rice; a sister, Bernice Harless; and two brothers, Cecil and Clifton Tate.

She leaves to cherish her memory a son and daughter-in-law, Donald Henry and Frankie Rice of Peterstown, W.Va.; five daughters and sons-in-law, Phyllis and Harold Woodward of Rochelle, Va., Evelyn Shubert of Oklahoma City, Okla., Barbara Sue Woods of Cleveland, Tenn., Nancy and John Thompson of Pembroke, Jeanie and Louis Nuzzo of Sophia, N.C.; fourteen grandchildren, twenty-one great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and her former husband and father of her children, Watha C. Rice of Peterstown, W.Va.

Funeral services will be conducted on Thursday, August 23, 2007 at 2 p.m. in The Kendall Funeral Home Chapel at 605 Snidow St. in Pembroke with Pastor Eddie Kendall officiating. Burial will follow in Birchlawn Burial Park in Pearisburg.
