William Remsen, 80, of Blacksburg, left this world, Friday, January 25, 2008, at Montgomery Regional Hospital. He was born in Brooklyn, NY on August 6, 1927 to the late George Washington and Henrietta Erasmi Remsen.
He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the US Navy as a plank owner on board the USS Juneau CLAA 119.
Prior to moving to Blacksburg, Mr. Remsen resided in Boca Raton, Florida for 30 years. While in Boca Raton, Mr. Remsen belonged to the American Legion Post #245, where he was chaplain for 17 years.
He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Trudy Remsen; daughter, Mary Remsen, of Pulaski; sons and daughters-in-law, Steven and Barbara Remsen, of Jacksonville, Florida, George and Kathryn Remsen, of Blacksburg, Robert Remsen, of Canton, North Carolina; sister, Georganna Scully, of Sylva, North Carolina; brother and sister-in-law, Edward and Kathryn Remsen, of Boca Raton, Florida; grandchildren, Frank Remsen and wife, Teri, Jennifer Higgs and husband, Greg, Thomas Remsen and wife, Ramona, Christine Gruell and husband, Derek, Matthew Remsen, Kimberly Remsen, Tyler Remsen; great-grandchildren, William Remsen and Austin Higgs; his cat, Jennifer; and numerous other relatives and close friends.
Memorial services will be conducted Monday, January 28, 2008 at 6 p.m. in the McCoy Funeral Home Chapel with Deacon Mike Ellerbrock officiating. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the American Legion Post #245, 11200 Park Access Road, Boca Raton, FL 33428. The family will receive friends Monday from 4 to 6 p.m. prior to the service at McCoy Funeral Home, 150 Country Club Drive SW, Blacksburg.
