Reed Jr., Wm. Claudie

Wm. Claudie Reed, Jr. of Chestertown, Maryland, died on Sunday, June 17, 2007 at his home. He was 57. He was born in Christiansburg, Va. on March 13, 1950 the son of the late William Claudie Sr. and Helen Janie (Wirt) Reed. He moved at a young age to Chestertown, Maryland where he attended Chestertown High School.

On March 4, 1967 he was married to Edith Dolores Kendall. He earned a certification in auto mechanics and worked as a mechanic from 1969 to 1978 with Eliason Motors and Norris Pyle Ford in Chestertown, Md. as well as Easton Ford and Elliott Wilson Trucking in Easton, Md. In 1978 he purchased Barry’s Market, renamed Reed’s General Store (Melitota Store) which he operated until 1999. Mr. Reed also owned and operated Reed’s Backhoe Service until the present. An accomplished mechanic, he loved working on old and historic cars and could fix or fabricate most anything. He also enjoyed fishing.

In addition to his wife he is survived by a daughter, Tina Reed Landon and her husband William Bryan Landon of Chestertown, Md.; a son, William Claudie Reed III of Chestertown, Maryland; brothers, John Reed and his wife Charlene of Worton, Md., Charles Reed and his wife Peggy of Worton, and Mike Reed and his wife Karen of Galena, Md.; two sisters, Diane Troester and her husband Jeff of Chestertown, Md. and Tammy Sutton and her husband Speedy of Chestertown, Md.; along with two grandchildren, Briar Landon and Hallie Landon.

Graveside Services will be held on Saturday, June 23, 2007 at 1p.m. at Sunset Cemetery in Christiansburg, Va. Relatives and friends may call on Thursday, June 21, 2007 between the hours of 6 and 8 p.m. at Fellows, Helfenbein, and Newnam Funeral Home 130 Speer Road Chestertown, Md.
