Ratliff, Melvin Lee

Melvin Lee Ratliff, age 90, of Elliston passed peacefully in his home Thursday, April 28, 2016. He was the son of the late Luther and Nellie Ratliff. He is preceded in death by his wife, Frances, daughters, Peggy and Carolyn; three brothers and four sisters.

Melvin had a long career with Virginia and N&W railroads before becoming Norfolk Southern, and was always willing to tell stories about it to anyone who would listen.

Melvin is survived by his sisters, Lillian Woods and Mildred Ligon, both of Salem, grandson, Daniel “Mac” Testerman of Elliston, several nieces and nephews.

A special thanks to his caretakers and very close friends Terry and Phyllis Testerman.

Funeral services will be conducted Monday, May 2, 2016, at 1:00 pm in the McCoy Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Ed Watkins officiating. Interment will follow in the Reesedale Cemetery, Ironto. The family will receive friends from 2-4:00 pm Sunday afternoon at the McCoy Funeral Home 150 Country Club Dr. SW, Blacksburg. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Melvin’s life.
