Ratcliffe, William Edward

William Edward (Bill) Ratcliffe, 78, of Giles St. in Pearisburg, Va., departed this life on Wednesday, April 22, 2009, at Roanoke Memorial Hospital. Born in Hemphill, W.Va., on August 24, 1930, he was a son of the late William Luther and Hallie Bowman Ratcliffe.

Earlier in life he had been employed at the L & M Tannery at Bluff City and was retired from carpenter work on bridge construction. He was a member of Giles Masonic Lodge No. #106 AF & AM in Pearisburg. Bill was proud to be listed as an organ donor.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his beloved wife, Wanda Standwitz Ratcliffe; his son-in-law, Steve Steele; and six brothers and sisters. He leaves to cherish his memory his son and daughterin-law, Michael J. and Joyce Dowdy Ratcliffe, of Pearisburg; his daughter, Vicki Ratcliffe Steele, of Newport; his grandchildren, Stevie Steele, Patrick Steele, Brandon Steele, Micah Steele, Scarlet Steele, and Max Ratcliffe; and his 13 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 25, 2009, in the Kendall Funeral Home at 605 Snidow St. in Pembroke with Pastor Micah Steele officiating. Burial will follow in Birchlawn Burial Park in Pearisburg. Graveside Military Honors by American Legion Posts #311 in Pembroke and #68 in Narrows and VFW Post #6000 in Narrows.
