Ratcliffe, Sr., John Bordene

John “Johnny” Bordene Ratcliffe, Sr., 77, of Pearisburg, VA, took his last breath on this earth and his first breath in heaven on January 5, 2023. Johnny was born on May 28, 1945, in Pearisburg and was a son of the late Lacy Len Ratcliffe, Sr., and Mona Hazel Davis Ratcliffe.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by 5 brothers, Jack, Vivian, Harvey, Lacy and Jerry Wayne Ratcliffe and 7 sisters, Polly Clyburn, Fannie Meredith, Lena Fay, Patty Ratcliffe, Dorothy Slusher, Mary Jane Bartley and Martha Dunn.

Johnny was a lifelong Giles County resident and was a avid Giles Spartan Football Fan. He loved standing at the fence watching the Spartans play football. Johnny will always be remembered as the ultimate fighter, battling numerous cancers, stroke and he has shared his testimony to everyone what the Lord had done for him. He was a “Believer” and shared his strong faith in the Lord.

Johnny leaves to cherish his memory, his loving wife of 57 years, Linda Ratcliffe of Pearisburg, 3 children, daughters, Melissa Williams (Danny) of Pearisburg, Shelia Crowe (Kevin) of Riner, son, John Bordene Ratcliffe, Jr., (Silver) of Pearisburg, 4 grandchildren, Keisha Carter (Chad), Megan Williams (Kyle Hopkins), Sarah Beth Williams (Justin Smith), Adreanna Ratcliffe, 4 great grandchildren, Braxton Smith, Gage Carter, Zander Carter, Emma Grace Smith and 1 sister, Betty Oakley (Jim) of Pearisburg and a host of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted Monday, January 9, 2023, at the Givens Funeral Chapel in Pearisburg at 2pm with burial following in the Ratcliffe Family Cemetery in Pearisburg. The family will receive friends at the funeral home 1 hour before the service from 1 – 2pm.

Special thanks to Silver Connor who affectionately referred to Johnny as “Pops”, for her caregiving over the years as well as both granddaughters, Megan Williams and Sara Beth Williams for helping “Maw Maw”, with “Paw Paw” for caregiving. With all he has endured in his life, his family referred to him as the “Man of Steel”.
