Rankin, Mabel Willie Tetter

Mabel Willie Tetter Rankin, 87, of Blacksburg, formerly of Austinville, Va. passed away Friday, September 23, 2011 at Roanoke Memorial Hospital. She was born in Wythe County, daughter of the late George W. and Mertie Ruth Osborne Tetter. She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Calvin Rankin; three children, Tommy Rankin, Herbert Eugene Rankin and Judy Rankin; a grandson, Daniel Wesley Ball; and a sister, Mary Esther Doss. Mabel was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church and served as Austinville Postmaster for 24 years. She is survived by two daughters, Mary Jane and Cecil Jarrett, of Christiansburg, Ruth and Dewey Lee Ball, of Cedar Bluff; son, Eddie Charles Rankin, of Draper; brother, George W. Tetter, of Lebanon; grandchildren, Randy Ball, Dale Ball, Nathan Wright, Chandra Elkins, Kayla Ward, Jessica Hash, Amber Rankin, Heather Rankin and Katie Rankin; 13 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, September 26, 2011 at the Reese Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Gary Cope officiating. Interment will follow in Bethany UMC Cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
