Ray G. Raines, age 93, passed away on Friday, September 11, 2020, at his home in Peterstown, WV. Born October 15, 1926, in Zenith, WV, he was the son of the late Fred Marshall and Gertrude Elvira Amos Raines.

Ray was a member of the First Missionary Baptist Church in Ballard, WV, and a U.S. Army Korean War Veteran. He worked as an equipment operator at the Radford Arsenal, and upon his retirement, worked at Ridge Runner Construction.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Beulah Marie Reed Raines; two brothers, James Clifford Raines, and Howard S. Raines; and brothers-in-law, Denny Looney, Bob Young, and Tom Houchins. Survivors include one daughter, Debbie St. Clair and husband Mack of Peterstown, WV; loving granddaughter, Trish St. Clair of Peterstown, WV; and his two great grandchildren, Ronan and Liam Manning. Also surviving are his nephews, nieces, great nephews, and great nieces, whom he loved help raising as his own, and many cousins, friends, and neighbors. The family would also like to extend a special thanks to all of Ray’s caregivers throughout the years.

Graveside services with military honors will be held at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, September 15, 2020, at Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Princeton, WV, with Rev. Steve Howdock officiating. Visitation will be from 12:00 PM until 1:00 PM on Tuesday at Broyles-Shrewsbury Funeral Home in Peterstown, WV. Wayne Young, Melvin Young, Ryker Young, Logan Young, Justin Hetherington, James “Seven” Raines, Greg Hedrick, and Freddie Terry will serve as pallbearers.

Due to the regulations associated with COVID-19 and the WV Governor’s Mandate, those attending the visitation and graveside services are asked to wear a mask and practice social distancing.
