Raines, James Clifford

James Clifford Raines, 93, of Peterstown, WV, passed away October 11, 2018, at his home. Born April 21, 1925, in Salem, VA, he was the son of the late Fred Raines and Gertrude Amos Raines. He attended Midway Calvary Tabernacle at Rich Creek where he served as a trustee. He enjoyed deer hunting, going to auction sales, and attending the annual Peyton Camp Meeting where he helped put up the tent. Clifford was a self-employed lumberman, having a sawmill at Gold Bond, VA, & Wilburn Valley, VA, and then later with his sons at Peterstown, WV.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Thelma Neel Raines. Survivors include three children, sons Jerry and Harry Raines and daughter Betty Ferguson and husband Fred all of Peterstown; two granddaughters, Kristi Daniels and husband Jeremy of Tadley, England, and Melissa Sicko and husband Nathan of Reidville, SC; four great-grandchildren, Joseph and Benjamin Daniels, and Kara and Megan Sicko; brothers Ray Raines of Peterstown and Howard Raines of Rock Camp; two sisters, Louise Houchins of Peterstown and Kathleen Looney and husband Denny of Roanoke, VA; and special friend Harold Ratliff of Zenith, WV.

Visitation on Saturday, October 13, 2018, at Broyles-Shrewsbury Funeral Home from 6 to 8 pm, and service on Sunday, October 14, 2018, at 2 pm with Rev. Bob Bradley officiating at the chapel. Burial will follow at the Peterstown Cemetery. Pallbearers include Wayne and Melvin Young, Jeremy Daniels, Nathan Sicko, James Raines, and Fred Ferguson.
