quesenberry_ruby_mRuby Mae Southern Quesenberry, 95, of Dublin, Va., died Friday, November 13, 2009. She was born February 16, 1914, in Pulaski County, and was the daughter of the late Annie Hurst Southern and Joseph Floyd Southern.

She was a life-long member of the Newbern United Methodist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Kenneth Quesenberry Sr.; and a sister, Ethel Southern Marshall. She is survived by a daughter, Wanda Shomaker, of Dublin; a son, Robert Kenneth Quesenberry Jr., of Mathews, N.C.: two grandchildren; Sheri Shelburne and her husband, Buford, of Radford, and Julie Helms and her husband, Chris, of Indian Trail, N.C.: four great-grandchildren, Will Shelburne, of Radford, Nathan Shelburne, of Radford, Alison Helms, of Indian Trail, N.C., and Garret Helms, of Indian Trail, N.C. Also survived by three nieces, Frances Marshall Akers, of Severn, Md., Louise Marshall Fitzgerald, of Dublin, and Mary Jo Marshall Leedham, of Spring, Texas; and a special caregiver, Barbara Gilmer, for her beloved assistance. Funeral services will be held Monday, November 16, 2009, at 7 p.m. at Seagle Funeral Home with the Rev. Michael Collins officiating. A graveside service will be held Tuesday morning, November 17, 2009, at 11 a.m. in Newbern Cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday evening at the funeral home from 6 until 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made in the form of donations to the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Box 3704, Memphis, Tenn. 38173-0704.
