Quesenberry, James Carl

James Carl Quesenberry, 77, of Chino Valley, Arizona, died Monday, April 28, 2007 at the VA Medical Center of Phoenix, Arizona of heart failure. He lived many years in Pulaski, Va. and retired from the Pulaski County Sheriff’s Dept. in 1976.

He was a veteran of World War II and was a member of the first group of veterans to receive a part artificial and part pig heart valve. He was the last surviving member of that group. He loved to read and to travel in his RV, meeting family and friends, both old and new.

He was born in Carroll County Virginia on September 29, 1929, and was the son of the late Amos Gordon (Jack) Quesenberry, Bessie Wilson Carroll and James David (Red) Carroll. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Amos Gordon (Junior) Quesenberry, Jr.; sister, Alene Quesenberry; stepson Victor Albert; and first wife, Elva O. Quesenberry.

Jimmy was a much loved husband, father, brother, grandfather and great-grandfather. He is survived by his wife, Patricia Quesenberry; daughter, Mary Ann and John Dye; stepdaughter, Missy and Luke Benning; stepson, Vince Albert; brother, Wilson A. (Speedy) and Norma Carroll, brother, John and Beverly Carroll; sister, Francis and Carlos Vaughn, sister, Betty and Leon Barlow; grandson James W. and Karen Dye; grandson, J. Matthew Dye; granddaughter, Ashleigh Benning, granddaughter, Kimberly Benning, grandson, Steven D. Albert, granddaughter, Stephanie D. Albert; great-grandson, Jordan A. Dye, great-grandson, Gavin S. St. Clair; and many nieces, nephews, family and friends.

Per his request, he will be cremated and his interment will be at the VA National Cemetery of Arizona in Phoenix, Arizona. A memorial service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the America Heart Association or your favorite charity.
