Betty Boyd Pusey, 69, of Blacksburg, Va., lost her courageous six-year battle with ovarian cancer on Sunday, September 27, 2009.

She is survived by her husband of 45 years, Robert Hollis Pusey; her daughter, Elizabeth P. Brown and son-inlaw, Michael W. Brown, and granddaughters, Haley and Delaney, all of Virginia Beach, Va.; her son, Robert Boyd Pusey, of Johnson City, Tenn.; and twins, Brian Thomas Pusey, of Blacksburg, and Eleanor Louise Pusey, of Wilmington, N.C.; sister, Nancy B. Bradley and brotherin-law, George E. Bradley, of Lewisburg, Tenn.; three aunts; two nephews; and several cousins. Betty was born and raised in Lewisburg, Tenn., and was preceded in death by her mother, Elizabeth Thomas Boyd, and her father, Oscar Stephens Boyd.

She graduated from the University of Tennessee with B.S. and M.S. degrees in home economics. She moved to Virginia in 1963 to teach home economics at Radford University. She retired from teaching in 1967 to be a full-time mother and homemaker. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and sister. She enjoyed making friends and developed many long-lasting relationships. She was an active member of the Blacksburg Church of Christ.

The family will receive friends at McCoy Funeral Home, 150 Country Club Dr., SW, Blacksburg, on Wednesday, September 30, 2009, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. The funeral will be held 11 a.m. on Thursday, October 1, 2009, at the Blacksburg Church of Christ, 315 E. Eakin St., Blacksburg and burial afterwards at Westview Cemetery, 723 Roanoke St., E, Blacksburg.
