pruitt margaret breedenMargaret Marie Pruitt passed away Saturday, November 24, 2012, at age 82 in Radford. She was born in Parrot in 1930, the daughter of William Alfred Breeden and Hazel Elizabeth Breeden. Her marriage to her husband, James Boyd Pruitt (predeceased), took her as an army wife to Japan and Berlin where James did tours of duty for the military. After James retired, he and Marie (as she was known to most people) settled in Radford. Marie, or “Sister Marie,” as she was known to her church members, was a longtime member of the Fairlawn Church of God. She went faithfully to services until her health prevented it. She dearly loved her church family, and they loved her in return. Marie is survived by her eldest daughter, Gail Peck, married to James Peck; and her youngest daughter, Joni Shelor, married to “Jack” Gary Shelor; and “adopted” daughter, Carlin Barbatti. Marie’s daughter, Sherry Pruitt, passed away in 2003. Surviving grandchildren are Stephen Peck, Lynn Peck, Jennifer Shawver, Christopher Barbatti, Kari Hodge, Katlin Shelor and Christopher Metzger; great-grandchildren are Brahm, Mya and Avery Shawver. Services will be held 7 p.m. Tuesday, November 27, 2012, at the Fairlawn Church of God with the Rev. Marcus Harrison and the Rev. Terry Bowden officiating. The family will receive friends prior to the service beginning at 5 p.m. Graveside services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, November 28, 2012, at the Southwest Virginia Veterans Cemetery in Dublin. Flowers will be accepted and appreciated or donations may be made to Carilion Hospice, 707 Randolph Street, Suite 251, Radford, VA 24141. As a family, we’d like to thank each of the sitters who gave Marie such loving care towards the end of her life, and we also give our heartfelt appreciation to hospice for their devoted care. The Pruitt family is in the care of Mullins Funeral Home & Crematory in Radford, www.mullinsfuneralhome.com.
