Mrs. Ardena Pauline Wood Pratt, 78, of Floyd, Va., passed away at her home on Wednesday, May 20, 2009.

Her favorite pastime was playing her guitar while singing church hymns. She loved to cook, sew, and read; but above all else, “Ma,” as she was fondly called, cherished her family and friends. She was a kind, gentle soul who loved God and her church family.

Mrs. Pratt was preceded in death by her loving husband of 46 years, George E. Pratt Jr.; and her precious little great-grandson, Joshua A. Cantrell.

She is survived by her older daughter and spouse, Joan and Wes Starkey; her twin daughter and son, Jewel Phillips and Joel Pratt, and their respective spouses, Doug Phillips and Saundra Pratt, all of Floyd; five granddaughters, Laura (Travis) Cantrell, of Floyd, Heidi (Jason) Harman, of Floyd, Mary Beth Starkey, of Blacksburg, Va., Brittany Phillips, of Wilmington, N.C., and Brandy Phillips, of Floyd; her great-grandchildren, Tori Pratt-Myers, Hunter and Ryder Harman, and A.J. and Isaiah Cantrell, all of Floyd; two sisters and their husbands, Gertrude and Coy Vipperman, and Geneva and Carl Belcher, all of Meadows of Dan, Va.; her brother and spouse, Dwight and Sarah Wood, of Floyd; and her sister-in-law and husband, Blanche and Harless Wood, of Meadows of Dan, Va. Mrs. Pratt was very close to her nieces and nephews, too numerous to mention.

Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 23, 2009, at Conners View Primitive Baptist Church in Meadows of Dan, Va., with Elder Edward Bowman and Elder Tim McGrady officiating. Interment to follow at the Pratt Cemetery in Floyd.
