Powers, Barbara Faye

Barbara Faye Powers, 80, of Christiansburg, Va., passed away on Thursday, January 22, 2009. She was born in East Jenkins, Ky., on October 11, 1928, to the late Leffey and Flora Mullins Burke. She was also preceded in death by her brother, Arville Burke; sons, Dudley and Daniel Powers; daughter, Sherrice Powers; and great-grandson, Malaki Frith.

She is survived by her husband, Gilmer Powers; daughter and son-in-law, Pamela and Mark Frith; granddaughters, Jennifer Frith, Rachel Frith, and Lynda and Lee Hawley; greatgrandchildren, Stacie Frith, Christopher Haywood Jr., and Trey and Dawson Hawley; sisters, Christine and J.C. Akers, of Christiansburg, Wanda and Eugene Glisson, of Radford, and Lavon and Truman Conley, of Jenkins, Ky.; brothers, Granville and Learlene Burke, of Jenkins, Ky., Kenneth and Lois Burke, of Versailles, Ky., and Ronald and Bernice Burke, of Radford; many nieces and nephews; and special friends, Selester and Katrina Bennet, and Ernestine Frith.

A funeral service will be conducted 1 p.m. on Monday, January 26, 2009, at Belview United Methodist Church with the Rev. Aaron Fitch officiating. Interment will follow in Belmont Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5 until 8 p.m. on Sunday, January 25, 2009, at the funeral home.
