William Burke Porterfield, age 88, died on Wednesday, December 14, 2022, at the Bowers Hospice House in Beckley, WV. Born August 18, 1934, in Rock Camp, WV, he was the son of the late Bracket O. and Annie Main Porterfield.

Burke graduated from Peterstown High School and attended Concord College before enlisting with the U.S. Army, where he served as a Military Policeman. Upon his discharge, he worked as a city policeman in Tucson, AZ, for four years before returning to Peterstown, where he worked for Celanese for 34 years until his retirement.

Burke was a member of the United We Stand Ministries Church in Rich Creek, VA. He was a dedicated member of the Peterstown Volunteer Fire and Rescue Squad since 1979. He served as a councilman of the Peterstown Town Council for many years. He loved hunting, fishing, and working in his garden, which he enjoyed sharing with friends and neighbors. Burke truly loved hard work, helping others, and sharing his faith in the Lord with everyone.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Sandra Lee Carson Porterfield; one brother, Oliver Porterfield; his in-laws, Ty and Marian Carson; sister-in-law, Mary Ann Sarrels; and brother-in-law, Ty Carson Jr.

Survivors include two sons, Malvin (Vicki) Conner and Tom Conner; one daughter, Melissa (Scott) Merrix; two brothers, John and Lee Porterfield; and several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00PM on Monday, December 19, 2022, at the Broyles-Shrewsbury Funeral Home Chapel in Peterstown, WV, with Pastor Ricky Green officiating. Burial will follow at the Peterstown Cemetery in Rich Creek, VA. Visitation will be held from 11:00AM until time of services on Monday at the funeral home.
