Porterfield, Mary Lawson
Mary Madeline Lawson Porterfield, 82, of Rich Creek, went home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Saturday, November 21, 2009. She was born in Carroll County, Va., on December 16, 1926, and was the daughter of the late Henry and Myrtle Surratt Lawson.
In addition to her mother and father, she was preceded in death by her husband of over 50 years, Norman Robert Porterfield; two sisters, Alma Vogt and Gertrude Blaker; and a brother, Bill Lawson.
Left to cherish her memory are her son, Daryl Porterfield and wife, Jackie, of Peterstown, W.Va.; two grandchildren, Carrie Porterfield and Bradley Porterfield and wife, Jennifer, all of Peterstown; three great grandchildren, Sydney, Connor and Jackson Porterfield; a sister, Leona Vogt, of Narrows; several nieces, nephews and cousins, and many special friends.
The family would like to thank the Giles County Sheriff’s Department, Carilion Patient Transport Services, Giles Rescue Squad, Dr. Kenneth Walker, and Dr. Michael McMahon for the care given her. The family extends an extra special thanks to her pastor and church family, friends and neighbors for loving her. She will be greatly missed. Her sweet soul is now rejoicing in Heaven.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, November 24, 2009, at 11 a.m. at Appalachian Christian Center on Route 219, 2 miles north of Peterstown, with Pastor Michael Biggs officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery in Narrows. The family will receive friends at Appalachian Christian Center Monday from 6 to 8 p.m.
