Porterfield, John Harrison

John Harrison Porterfield, 79, of Dublin, Va., passed away Monday, Feb. 23, 2015, in the Highland Ridge Health and Rehab Center, Dublin. He was born July 21, 1935, in Pulaski, Va., the son of the late Rose Zetta Turner Porterfield and John Payton Porterfield.

Also preceding him in death were his brother, Douglas Porterfield; sisters Betty Jo Porterfield and Judy Robinson; niece Deborah Flinchum; and sister-in-law Ruby Robertson.

John was a farmer in Dublin. and a member of the New Dublin Presbyterian Church.

Surviving are his wife of 59 years, Pauline Robertson Porterfield; daughter and husband Christina and Michael Lawrence; granddaughters Catherine Lawrence and Saranea Rickman; sisters and brother-in-law Connie Flinchum, and Willie and David Brooks; brother and sister-in-law Terry and Patty Porterfield; brother-in-law David Robertson; and nieces and nephews.

John loved God, his family, farming and his two border collies, Meg and May.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 28, at New Dublin Presbyterian Church, with the Rev Andrew Taylor-Troutman officiating. Burial will follow in the Highland Memory Gardens, Dublin. The family will receive friends 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Stevens Funeral Home. Flowers are appreciated, and memorials may be sent to the church in John’s memory.
