Vivian (Nana) Elanie Lewis Porter, 85, answered the call of her Lord and Savior, Friday January 30, 2009 with her family by her side. She was born July 11, 1923 to the late Edmund and Cora Bell Lewis in Pulaski, Va.

Vivian accepted Christ at an early age, and was a lifelong member of New Century United Methodist Church, which later became Randolph United Methodist Church and a fellowship member of Showers of Blessing C.O.G.I.C. in Dublin, Va. She was a member of the United Methodist Women, Wesleyan Service Guild, the Mary Buford Women’s Club, Virginia State Federated Colored Women’s Club and a member of the RAUM Senior Choir. Vivian attended Calfee Training School in Pulaski and later attended Christiansburg Institute. Vivian was employed with the Head Start Program as a cook for many years.

She leaves to cherish her memories one daughter, Janet Johnson; one son, Michael Porter, both of Pulaski; one sister, Ethel B. Dillard, of Reidsville, N.C.; daughter-in law, Constance Porter, of Dublin, Va.; granddaughter, Kesha (Lamont) Taylor, of Riner, Va.; five grandsons, Keith (Carol) Johnson, of Christiansburg, Ralph Porter, Jr., of Dublin, Michael (Shelia) Porter, of Baltimore, Md., David Porter, of Northern Virginia, Brian Porter of Columbus, Ohio and Logan Dean, of Pulaski; a special niece and caregiver, Mazie Holmes; a host of great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Funeral service Wednesday, February 4, 2009 at 12 noon, Randolph Ave. United Methodist Church Pulaski, Va., with the Rev. Leroy Henry officiating. The family will receive friends Tuesday evening, February 3, 2009, from 6 until 8 p.m. at Randolph Ave. United Methodist Church. Burial will be at Pinehurst Cemetery, Pulaski, Va.
