Phipps, Dian Leamnson

Dian Leamnson Phipps, 66, of Dublin, Va. lost her lengthy and courageous fight with cancer on Wednesday, September 5, 2007 in the Montgomery Regional Hospital, Blacksburg.

She was born on June 28, 1941 in Indianapolis, Ind. and was preceded in death by her father, Jack Leamnson. Dian earned her B.A. from Radford University, her Masters from Ball State and taught in the Bland County school system. Her teaching passion was to make sure that all children learned to read. She was a member of the Newbern Community Christian Church.

Surviving are her husband, Walter Phipps; daughters and sons-in-law, Donna and Thomas Ratcliffe, Dortha and Doug Irvin, Jr., and Denise and Richard Webb; mother, Esther Robinson Leamnson; brother, Mike Leamnson; grandchildren, Tanner and Andra Ratcliffe, Jessica and Jeremiah Irvin, and Katelyn Webb.

Christian Church with Ernie Depew and Dr. David Eubanks officiating. Burial will follow in Newbern Cemetery. Visiting will be Friday evening, September 7, 2007 at Stevens Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m.

Flowers will be appreciated, however memorials may also be made to the Mountain Mission School, Grundy, Va. or to the Johnson Bible College, Knoxville, Tenn. Arrangements by Stevens Funeral Home, Pulaski, Va.
