Sidney Martin (Tucker) Phillips, 93, died on Thursday, July 14, 2011, at the Highlands Lake Center in Lakeland, Fla., of natural causes. He was born on May 29, 1918, in Indian Valley (Floyd County), Va., to Guy B. and Ella Wade Phillips.

He was a veteran of the United States Army, serving in World War II. After his retirement from the N & W Railroad in Bluefield, W.Va., he and his wife moved to Lakeland, Fla., in 1980. He was a member of the Crystal Lake Baptist Church, Lakeland.

He was predeceased by his wife, Mary Frances Duncan Phillips; his brothers, Arthur, Troy, Maynard, Calvin and Vernon; and his sisters, Treva and Effie. He is survived by his children, Durwood Phillips (Connie Biby), Lenora Harris, Reta Hill (Dick), and Guy Phillips (Carolyn); his sister, Winnie Meredith; his brother, Ted Phillips (Joyce); sister-inlaw, Marlene Phillips; nine grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

The family wishes to thank all his caregivers at Highlands Lake Center.
