Sandra Lynn Counts Phillips, age 73 of Dublin passed away Thursday morning March 21, 2013 at her home. Born December 16, 1939 in Caretta, West Virginia she was the daughter of the late Fred & Gertrude Counts.

Sandy attended Big Creek High, Concord College and worked at the West Virginia Capitol. Later she finished nursing school and worked for local doctors. She last worked for Meadowbrook Nursing Home. Sandy loved playing Bridge at local bridge clubs and was regarded as a “Really Good Player”. She was well known for her wit and friendliness and made everyone’s day brighter. She always said she wanted to be remembered as kind and gentle to others.

She is survived by her Loving Husband of 30 years -C.M. “Phil” Phillips – Dublin Son John F. Thomas & wife, Angie – Charlotte, NC (Grandchildren) Bailey, Olivia & Alex –Charlotte, NC Daughter Rhonda Almarode & husband, Tim – Dublin, VA (Grandchildren) Jordan and Ashley – Dublin Step-Son Keith & wife, Linda Phillips – Taylors, SC (Grandchildren) Tom and Michele – Taylors, SC Step-Daughter Karen Phillips – Chesapeake, VA Brother Jim Withrow – Conway, SC

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM Monday at the Bower Funeral Home with Rev. Paul Goshorn and Rev. Bobby Ward officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM until service time Monday. Sandy requested to be cremated and placed at the Southwest Virginia Veterans Cemetery, Dublin.

In lieu of flowers, friends are asked to make memorial donations to the (Newbern Methodist Church (P.O. Box 427-Newbern, VA 24126) or the V.F.W. Ladies Auxiliary Post # 1184 c/o 4138 Old Mill Road, Pulaski, VA.
