Melva Stanger Phillips, 89, of Christiansburg, departed this earth to be with her Lord and Savior and to be where her bluebirds fly on Friday, September 28, 2012. Melva was born in Coal Hollow in Montgomery County on December 3, 1922 to the late Nile and Nannie Stanger. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Jesse “Harold” Phillips and her brother, Marshall Stanger.

She was a long standing and faithful member of Belview United Methodist Church.

She leaves to cherish her memory, one son and daughter-in-law, Rickie and Teresa Phillips; and three grandsons, Kyle, Jacob, and Jesse; a sister and brother-in-law, Elsie and Silas Cox; and two very special nieces and their children, Ann (Larry) Hall, and Shirley (Burt) Cobb, and Nicole Hall, Tracy Crosier, and Tim Otey.

The family will receive friends on Monday, October 1, 2012 from 6 until 8 p.m. at Horne Funeral Home. A funeral service will be conducted on Tuesday, October 2, 2012 at 1 p.m. at Belview United Methodist Church with the Rev. Bobbie Henley and the Rev. Sebert Rorrer officiating. Interment will follow in Sunset Cemetery.
