Marie Miller Sowers Phillips, 76, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend to many, went to be with the Lord, Friday, March 24, 2006.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Pearl Miller; her first husband, Elvin Sowers; her second husband, Eather Phillips; a brother, Carry Miller; and a sister, Merl Flinchum.

Marie blessed many with her kind and generous spirit and leaves a legacy of faith, honor, integrity, cheerfulness, hard work, and kindness to others. She enjoyed the role of Mother, Grandmother, and Great-Grandmother to the fullest and treasured her children and grandchildren. She has been a courageous inspiration during her recent illness to all whose lives she touched.

Left to cherish her memory are a son and daughter-in-law, Wayne and Carolyn Sowers, Christiansburg; daughters and sons-in-law, Sandra and Ricky Keith, Pilot; Carolyn and Wayne Covington, Quincy, Fla., Beverly Chamberlain and Jeff Wimmer, Christiansburg; grandchildren and their spouses, Darrell and Pam Sowers, Pilot, Candace and Doug Johnston, Christiansburg, Stephanie and Larry Williams, Riner, Ashley Altizer, Christiansburg, Aaron Altizer, Christiansburg, Heather Keith, Pilot, Chase Chamberlain, Christiansburg, Brian Wimmer, Christiansburg; greatgrandchildren, Skyler Williams, Riner, and Caleb Johnston, Christiansburg; brothers and sisters-in-law, R.C. and Carmel Miller, Christiansburg, Billy and Dorothy Miller, Pilot, Sonny and Loretta Miller, Riner; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Arlo and Aileen Sowers, Pilot, Don and Lula Mae Sowers, Riner; sisters and brothers-in-law, Oveeda Markle, Mineral, Va., Margie and Cecil Sutphin, Pilot, Jean and Kenneth Graham, Salem, Corine Sowers, Floyd, Agnes Graham, Salem; special niece, Sharon Flinchum, Pilot; numerous beloved nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her loving extended family at Wheatland Retirement Home.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday, March 25 at Horne Funeral Service. A celebration of her life will be at 3:30 p.m. Sunday, March 26 at Lighthouse Family Ministries. The Rev. Steve Board, Mr. Donnie Board, the Rev. Claude Dove and Pastor Buford Linkous will be officiating. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Christiansburg Rescue Squad or the Riner Fire Department.
