Surrounded by her family, Edith Myrle Phillips, 85, passed peacefully away on Monday, May 25, 2009. She was born August 2, 1923 to the late Franklin Clive and Sarah Saul Morris. She was preceded in death by her lifelong partner and husband, Genice Victor Phillips. Also preceding her in death were sisters, Thelma Ridpath, Sylvia Barton, and brother, Charles Swanson Morris. Surviving family are brothers, JT and wife, Margie Morris, of Elliston, Paul and wife, Louise Morris, of Pulaski, Marvin and wife, Peggy Morris, of Christiansburg, and Doug and wife, Becky Morris, of North Carolina; sisters are Dorothy Simpkins, of Radford, Judy and husband, Ed Smith, of Georgia; sister-in-law, Ruby Morris, of Christiansburg and beloved friend and sister-in-law, Hattie Matherly. Surviving children are Marty Cook and fiance, Champ Lefler, of Mt. Gilead, N.C., Don and Vannessa Phillips, of Elliston, Debbie Shrewsberry, of Blacksburg, Terry Phillips, of Shawsville, Ken Phillips, of Shawsville and Norman Cook, of Pennsylvania; grandchildren, Tom Cook and fiance, Wendy Hicks, Tim and Mandi Cook, Terry Cook, Scott Phillips, Kenny Shrewsberry, James Lutz, Robert and Samantha Lutz, Charlotte Peer, and James Peer; great-grandchildren, Caleb Wegner, Justin Lutz, and Jaden Lutz; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and family friends. Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, May 29, 2009, at McCoy Funeral Home, 150 Country Club Drive in Blacksburg, Va. A memorial service will be held May 30, 2009, at 11 a.m. in the Blacksburg First Church of God on Roanoke Street with the Rev. David Ansley officiating. Special music will be provided by Sharon Knight. The family would like to thank the staff at Montgomery Regional Hospital for their excellent care and professionalism.
