Phillips, Dessie May Clay

Dessie May Clay Phillips, 94, of Willis, Va. was called by God to her Heavenly Home on Monday October 8, 2007.

Dessie was born December 28, 1912 in Carroll County. She was preceded in death by her parents, Enoch Mack Clay and Ora Cosby Horton; her husband, Martin Fuget Phillips; two brothers, Rev. Donald Owen Clay and Colba Dutch Clay; and son-in-law, Elden Ralph Dalton.

Dessie was a very loving and kind person who loved to visit and talk with people. She spent many long hours of hard work along side of her husband on the family farm. She loved gardening and canning the products of her labor. Her favorite past time was spent working with flowers and all types of needle craft. She loved to attend church and sing the old hymns which she did as long as health permitted.

Surviving are two daughters and son-in-law, Lillian Muriel Dalton and Verna Mae and Dean Akers; four grandsons to whom she was Grandma Dessie, Barry Poff, Reggie Akers and wife, Heather, Mark Akers and wife, Tammy, Matthew Akers and fianc�e, Jessica Ketterer; three great-grandchildren, Jacob Akers, Destiny Akers, and Dane Akers; sister, Paulita C. Mc Peak; sister-in-law, Betty N. Clay; several nieces and nephews; and two special little girls, Aarica and Lilly Ketterer.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, October 11, 2007 at Maberry Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Joe Cox and the Rev. Roy Turpin officiating with interment to follow at Greasy Creek Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, October 10, 2007 at the funeral home.

The family will be at the home of Verna Mae and Dean Akers. Arrangements by Maberry Funeral Home, Inc.
