Mary Katherine (Kakie) Cook Phibbs, 92, of Pulaski, peacefully went to be with THE LORD, while in her home, on July 29, 2011, and was surrounded by her family. She was a member of The Pulaski First Church of the Brethren.

She had previously been employed by Northwood Elementary School, Radford Arsenal and Jefferson Mills in Pulaski. She graduated from Princeton High School, Princeton, WV., and attended Bridgewater College, Bridgewater, Va, Class of ’51.

Kakie was born in Princeton, W.Va. to Theodore “Ted” Boyd Cook and Ruby Jane Bailey Cook who preceded her in death. Also preceding her in death were her sister, Naoma Ruth Cook Johnston; her husband, Arby Hastwell Phibbs; her daughter, Jean Phibbs Burgwald; and a great-grandson, Dylan Vaughan.

She is survived by three of her children, Peggy Phibbs Metz and her husband, Kenneth Metz, of Denton, N.C., formerly of Pulaski, William (Bill) Michael Phibbs of Linden, and Earleen Phibbs Vaughan and her husband, Ronald S. Vaughan, of Denton, NC.; son-in-law, William (Bill) Burgwald of The Villages, Fla.; her special daughter-in-law, Kozie Phibbs, of Hunterville, N.C.; her dearest cousin, Mrs. Francis Hudgens of Rock Hill, S.C.; her niece, Betty Potter, of Valencia, Calif.; seven grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at Seagle Funeral Home on Sunday, July 31, 2011 from 4 to 6 p.m. Funeral Service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, August 1, 2011 at Pulaski First Church of the Brethren. The burial will follow at Highland Memory Gardens.
