Perkins, William Lee
William “Bill” L. Perkins, 68, passed away peacefully on May 3, 2022, in Blacksburg, VA, after a brief battle with cancer. Born September 6, 1953, in Roanoke, Virginia, he was the son of the late Elisha Lee Perkins and Frances Poland Perkins.
He is survived by his son: Will Davison Perkins and Will’s mother, Charity Perkins of Charlotte, North Carolina; brother Wayne (Terri) Perkins of Catawba, Virginia; sisters: Kay Lee of Udall, Kansas and Debby Perkins of Riegelsville, Pennsylvania; niece: Jessica Perkins, and nephews: Seth Perkins and Travis (Shannon) Volz. Additionally, Bill is survived by best friend, Lee Talbot (Patti) and their sons Jon and Jamie; and mother-in-law, Mary Myerly of Hagerstown, Maryland.
Bill graduated from Towson State University and spent his career working in Information Technology in Roanoke, VA; Charleston, SC and Charlotte, NC.
His biggest accomplishment was being a father to Will, who was the light of his life. Bill passed along his passion for athletics and encouraged Will to try his hand (and feet!) in all sports – running, baseball, golf, soccer and lacrosse. Through the years, Bill never missed any of Will’s games and in 2007, as head coach of the OP soccer team, won the league championship and took home the gold. Bill’s mantra, “Play well, but enjoy the experience,” continues to be the foundation in his son’s life. Bill loved the outdoors – from the mountains to the shores. His favorite times were spent with Will fishing in the backyard pond, setting off fireworks in Myrtle Beach and playing a round of golf.
We’d like to thank the extraordinary staff at Heritage Hall in Blacksburg, VA, for their loving care and support during Bill’s final months.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. on May 12 at McCoy Funeral Home, 150 Country Club Dr. S.W., Blacksburg, VA 24060.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Bill’s memory to the American Cancer Society (www.cancer.org) or to the Humane Society of Montgomery County (http://www.hsmcshelter.com/home-.html).
