Pennington, Thelma Beatrice Allen (Granny)

Thelma Beatrice Allen (Granny) Pennington, 86, of Rich Creek, Va., flew into the arms of Jesus to start her new eternal life in Heaven on Saturday, October 23, 2010, at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital, Roanoke, Va. Born on May 5, 1924, at Bozoo, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Lee H. “Teb” and Lura Wills Allen. Thelma was a member of the Princeton Church of God and was retired as proprietor of the Pennington Super Market and Twin State Furniture. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, the love of her life, T.J. Pennington. Survivors include two daughters, Shirley Osborne and husband, Bob, of Princeton, W.Va., and Mary Wright and husband, Kenneth, of Pearisburg, Va.; one son, Darrell Pennington and wife, Hallie, of Rich Creek, Va.; one grandson, Michael Pennington and wife, Tammy Huffman Pennington; two greatgrandchildren, Sydni and Emileigh Pennington, all of Dublin, Va., which she loved with all of her heart; one brother, Harry Allen, of Lindside, W.Va.; one sister, Betty Allen Mutter, of Oakwood, Va.; and several nieces and nephews. Graveside Services will be held 11 a.m. on Tuesday, October 26, 2010, at the Sunrise Memorial Gardens, Rich Creek, Va., with Pastor Otuce Huffman Jr. and Pastor Buford Linkous officiating. Family and friends wishing to attend the Graveside Service are asked to meet at the BroylesShrewsbury Funeral Home, Peterstown, W.Va., by 10:30 a.m. At Thelma’s request there will be no visitation. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the Drypond Regular Baptist Church, HC 77, Box 494, Ballard, W.Va. 24918, or to the Lighthouse Ministries, 301 Merrimac Road, Blacksburg, Va. 24060.
