Pennington, Julia (Ellen)

Julia (Ellen) Pennington, 90, of the Poplar Hill Community, Pearisburg, was granted her well deserved wings on July 5, 2014. She was born March 31, 1924 at Poplar Hill, the daughter of the late William Amos and Marzette Sadler Bruce. She joins her beloved husband, Oakley Wilbern Pennington; three brothers, Cecil, Eugene and Ralph Bruce and one sister, Gladys Bruce Williams to walk the streets of gold. She was a lifetime member of Shaver Memorial Church of Pearisburg.

Ellen is survived by her loving daughter, Liz Shaver and son-in-law, Buddy; two granddaughters, Kim Landes and husband, Randy of Blue Ridge; Melissa Williams and husband, Michael of Pembroke; six great-grandchildren, Tyler, Taylor, Trevor and Talicee Landes, Morgan and Madison Williams; and many special nieces; and nephews.

Special thanks to her caregiver Iva Conners and her best friend, Glayds Harris for their blessings to our mother and grandmother with so much love and care. Thanks to Giles Carilion Community Hospital, Lewis Gale Montgomery Hospital and Heritage Hall, Rich Creek for their wonderful care.

Funeral Services will be Tuesday, July 8, 2014 at 2 p.m. at the A. Vest & Sons Funeral Home, White Gate with the the Rev. Shawn Wilburn officiating. Burial will follow at the Bruce Family Cemetery Poplar Hill. Visitation will be Tuesday at the funeral home from 1 p.m. until service time.
