Pence, Mary Ellen Montgomery

Mary Ellen Montgomery Pence, 72 of Dublin went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, February 11th, 2009 at Carilion New River Valley Medical Center in Christiansburg.

She was born in Radford on May 2nd, 1936 and was the daughter of the late John Herman and Gladys Katherine Thompson Montgomery. In addition to her mother and father, she was preceded in death by her husband, Walton Lee (Snooky) Pence, several brothers, and one sister.

She was a member of Brush Harbor Assembly of God in Pulaski. She also played the guitar and sang at area nursing homes, brightening the days for many residents. A devoted mother and grandmother, she’ll be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

She is survived by a son, Robert Pence and wife Bessie of Dublin; two daughters, Susan Lynn Freeman of Dublin and Doris Woolard of Richmond; seven grandchildren, Rebecca Branscome, Joey Kincer, Shawn Douglas Freeman, David Kincer, Ashley Pence, Erin Woolard, and Lauren Woolard; a great-grandchild, Elijah Duncan; a brother, Edward Montgomery of Dublin; several nieces, nephews and cousins; and very special friends, Helen Keen, Betty Guinn and Alice Robertson.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 14th, 2009 at 2 PM in the Chapel of Riffe’s Funeral Service in Narrows with Pastor Carson Linkous officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery in Narrows. The family will receive friends at Riffe’s Funeral Service in Narrows Friday from 6 to 8 PM.
