George Edwin Peek, 87, of Pulaski, Va., passed away on Tuesday, November 2, 2010, at Pulaski Health and Rehab. He was born on May 5, 1923, to the late Rev. Henry Clyde Peek Sr. and Geneva Viola Holt Peek.

He was also preceded in death by his wife, Lula Cooper Peek; a daughter, Patsy Ellen Peek; a son, Michael Wayne Peek; and one brother, Bobby S. Peek.

He is survived by a grandson, Jon Peek; five sisters, Sarah Hales, Bernice Townsend, Betty Clark, Edith Hall and Sharon Taylor; seven brothers, John Peek, Ray Peek, Elmo Peek, Henry Peek Jr., Jack Peek, Norris Peek and Wayne Peek; a sister-in-law, Betty Cooper Pinkard; and numerous nieces and nephews. Special recognition to a nephew, Gale Grantham; and a special friend, Tony Trail.

Mr. Peek was a World War II veteran serving as a paratrooper and a heavy machine gun operator in the 164th infantry. He served in New Guinea, Southern Philippines, Luzon and other areas. He received Bronze Service Stars in the American Theater Campaign, the Asiatic Pacific Theater Campaign, and the Philippine Liberation. He also received a Bronze Star Medal. He was retired from Kerns Bread Company and New River Community College.

Funeral Services will be held 2 p.m. on Friday, November 5, 2010, at Stevens Funeral Home, Pulaski, Va., with the Rev. Johnny Howlett officiating. The family will receive friends before the service from noon to 2 p.m. Interment will follow at Oakwood Cemetery, Pulaski, Va.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Daily Bread, Pulaski, Va., or to the charity of one’s choice.
