Jan Edward Pearson, 55, of Blacksburg died Saturday, March 17, 2007 at Montgomery Regional Hospital.

He was born in Pocahontas, Va. on June 26, 1951. He was preceded in death by his father, Guy Pearson. He was a member of Luther Memorial Lutheran Church. Jan taught science in Radford City and Giles County Public Schools, as well as Danville and Virginia Beach. Earlier in Jan’s career, he worked for the Department of Labor in Washington, D.C.

He is survived by his wife, Mona M. Murphy of Blacksburg; mother, Nela Virginia Trent of Blacksburg; uncle, James E. Pugh of Cocoa, Fla.; cousin, James E. Hugh of Atlanta, Ga.; mother-in-law, Myrtis C. Murphy of Fairfax, Va.; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Barbara and Bill Miller, of Burnsville, N.C.; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Gary Murphy and Laura Speed and son, Garrett Murphy, all of Houston, Texas.

Memorial services will be conducted Wednesday, March 21, 2007 at 4 p.m. in the Luther Memorial Lutheran Church with Pastor Gary Schroeder officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service at the church. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made through Lutheran Memorial Lutheran to Virginia Trust Fund for Mission, 600 Prices Fork Road, NW, Blacksburg, VA 24060.
