Aletha M. Pearson died Friday, January 4, 2008 at home after an extended illness . She was born on July 21, 1936 in San Diego, California and spent most of her formative years there.

She was the loving wife of Donald H. Loomis. They had been married since 1980 in Washington, DC, and moved to Alum Ridge in Floyd County in 1985 after living in Winchester, Virginia.

Aletha was very interested in the care of handicapped children and young adults and spent many hours as a volunteer in Washington in this endeavor. One of her last jobs was working with the handicapped in West Virginia. She was also very interested in the care and protection of animals, particularly cats, and helped found the Floyd County Humane Society.

Besides her husband, she leaves behind: her brother, Donald Pearson and his wife Margert, Orange County, California; sister-in-law, Beryl Pearson, Sidney, Australia; and many nieces and nephews.

Deceased are her father, mother, step-father, and two brothers.

A Memorial Service will be held at Mt. Elbert United Methodist Church on Mt. Elbert Road, off Alum Ridge Road, on Saturday, February 2, at 11:00 a.m., followed immediately afterwards by a potluck dinner at the church. Reverend Donna Sharp will preside. The dress will be casual.
