pearman_verna_sissonVerna Sisson Pearman, 97, of Shawsville, Va., departed this life on Saturday, January 8, 2011. She was preceded in death by her parents, Wilbur and Ada Sisson, brother, Bud Sisson, and husband, Elbert W. Pearman. She is survived by her children, Nell Wilson Shifflett and husband, Dennis, Thomas M. Pearman, III and wife, Martha, and Alice Jane Quesenberry and husband, Tommy; grandchildren, Amy Donathan, Tony Pearman and wife, Amy, Dean Durham and wife, Ann, and Darian Durham; great-grandchildren, Carlotta Donathan, Savanna Donathan, Dallas Durham, Devin Durham, Gabe Miller, and Alexandra Nance; great-greatgrandchildren, Mia and Jessup Donathan; and numerous friends. She was a high school English teacher in Shawsville for 35 years, retiring in 1978. She enjoyed teaching, she loved her students, and is probably most remembered for the quotes that she had her students memorize. Seven scholarships have been donated to students from the Verna S. Pearman Scholarship Fund since it was established in 2004. She served as a volunteer at Montgomery Regional Hospital for 17 years after retiring from teaching. She was a life-long member of White Memorial United Methodist Church in Shawsville and served as their organist for many years. She was a world traveler for as long as her health allowed. She will be remembered and greatly missed by all who loved her. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Verna S. Pearman Scholarship Fund, Eastern Montgomery Educational Foundation, 4695 Crozier Road, Elliston, VA 24087. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, January 11, 2011 from 5 until 8 p.m. at Horne Funeral Home. A memorial service in celebration and thanksgiving for her life will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, January 12, 2011 from the chapel of Horne Funeral Home with Rev. Herbert Williams and Rev. James Angle officiating. A private intombment will take place at Roselawn Memorial Gardens. The Pearman family is being served by Horne Funeral Service & Crematory.
