Peak, Robert Eugene

Robert Eugene (Bob) Peak, 70, of Floyd, went to rest in Jesus’ arms on Thursday, November 21, 2013 after a valiant fight with brain cancer. He was surrounded by loved ones, including his wife of 51 years, Janet Craighead Peak and his only son, Christopher Hundley Peak.

He is preceded in death by his father, Clarence Alonzo Peak; mother, Mary Louise Williams Peak; one sister, Mildred Peak Blevins; and four brothers, Harold, Troy, Clarencie, and Joe Peak.

He is survived by one sister, Mary Peak Tate; his wife and son; a beloved grandson, Greyson Michael Peak; daughter-in-law, Lori Hartman Peak; and many beloved relatives and friends.

He maintained friendship with many of his VA TECH football teammates as well as students and personnel from many years in education. Bob taught at Blacksburg High School from 1964-1968. He moved to Floyd County in 1968 to serve as administrator at Floyd County High School, Willis Elementary School, and Check Elementary School. Bob was a member of Masonic Lodge #329 and spent years on the Community Service Board. He served on several Southern Association of Schools and Colleges evaluation committees. He was a member of the Floyd Presbyterian Church, filling several terms on the church Session.

After retirement, Bob developed a keen interest in antique fishing tackle and became friends worldwide of others with similar interests. He was a member of the North Carolina Fishing Tackle Club and the National Fishing Tackle Collectors Association. By use of the computer he shared his interest and knowledge with many, which was his great joy in years of retirement.

The family wishes to extend special appreciation to Dr. Garry Kuiken, Good Samaritan Hospice personnel, beloved brother-in-law, Bill Craighead; special friend, Roger Hollandsworth; and caretaker, Matthew Ratliff. Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, November 24, 2013 at the Presbyterian Church of Floyd with Pastor Roy Turpin officiating. Interment to follow in the Jacksonville Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. on Saturday, November 23, 2013 at the Maberry Funeral Home Chapel.
