James Ivan Pascoe, 89, of Blacksburg, Va., passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, October 21, 2009. He was born on March 21, 1920, in Blacksburg.

A veteran of World War II and Korea, he joined the United States Army in 1936, and later transferred into the Navy. He served in the Armed Forces from 1936 to 1963. He retired from the U.S. Navy as a Chief Petty Officer.

He and his wife then moved back to Blacksburg, where he attended Virginia Tech. Mr. Pascoe worked for a local bank as a courier for many years. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and travel.

He is survived by his wife, Laura Jane Pascoe; his daughter, Joanne Pascoe; two grandchildren, Carl E. Griffiths and wife, Karen, and Michelle A. Griffiths, and two greatgrandchildren, Joshua James Griffiths and Colin James Griffiths. Mr. Pascoe is also survived by his sister, Martha Wade; a sister-in-law, Martha Waybright, her surviving children, Amy White, John Thomas Waybright; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

A graveside service will be held 3 p.m. on Saturday, October 24, 2009, in the Pascoe Waybright Family Cemetery, Blacksburg, followed by a reception at St. Michael Lutheran Church. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the St. Michael Lutheran Church, 2308 Merrimac Road, Blacksburg, Va. 24060. Arrangements by McCoy Funeral Home, Blacksburg, Va.
