Parks, Judith Lee

Judith Lee Parks died on Old Christmas Day, 2022. Her immediate family mark this day and remember her in this time as do other kith and kin with whom Judy shared life, love, and the good things of this world:

Her daughter, Cindy Lou Greene and Terry; Cindy’s son Chris Murphy and Angie and their sons Christian and Adrian; and her granddaughter Terri Green.

Her sister, Nancy Mabry and her children Sara (in memoriam), Susanna, Jenny, and Mark and their families.

Her brother, David Parks and his sons Michael and Stephen.

Her brother, Mike Parks and Connie and their children Chelsea and Jamie.

Judy was the second child of Bill and Bet Parks, born and raised in the Back Creek section of Pulaski County. She had a nice, slow childhood where her feet could run fast over the hills and climb the highest trees. She attended Pulaski County Schools and later received bachelor and master degrees in the area of education from Radford University. Judy’s calling to do good work in the world took place in two ways. She worked in the Virginia Department of Corrections for some time in various institutional and administrative positions. She also taught in the school systems, public and private, of Virginia, Kentucky, and Tennessee in different disciplines at different levels, and concluded her teaching time in special education programs for the blind and visually impaired in Kentucky and Southwest Virginia. Judy was passionate in her belief that all children can learn and should have the opportunity so to do. Her commitment to this calling was marked by careful preparation and hard work, but was most evident in her love and care for students who were in her presence.

We will miss sharing with Judy her interests and delights: country and bluegrass music (she never wanted to miss Galax in August, and she and David produced The McPeak Brothers CD, “You Won’t Ever Forget Me”); complex and artistic flower and Christmas wrapping creations; and being a lover of antiques, Victorian houses, children, kittens, and dogs.

Judy gifted us with her expressed love of family, joy in her smile, and wonderment of the world.
