Pappas, Robert Clifton
Robert Clifton (Pappy) Pappas, 75, of Radford, passed away on Friday, August 15 2014. He was born in Illinois, to the late Gus and Bernice Pappas. He was preceded in death by a brother and two sisters. He married his high-school sweetheart, Lorraine Udaykee in 1958. He was in the United States Army and served in the 101st Airborne Division from 1958 -1961.
After serving, he worked at Intercraft as Plant Manager while attending Northwestern University. He then moved to Cherry Hill, New Jersey and worked for PA Plymouth, Inc. While at Plymouth he was promoted to President. In 1988 he purchased the company with his partners. In 1991, he moved the company to Radford, Virginia, where he worked another 11 years before retiring.
He was a member of the Radford Rotary Club and the Blacksburg Country Club. Family was his focus. The door was always open. He enjoyed holidays the most, because it created a reason for everyone to come over. Many holidays were celebrated by our family at mom and dad’s. Summer was his favorite season. Playing golf and swimming with his labs Ali & GiGi gave him a lifetime of enjoyment.
He is survived by his loving wife, Lorraine; a brother, Jim and wife Carol; a sister, Sally and Larry Zigler; a sister-in-law, Carol and Robert Sturenfelt; his children: Eve Pappas and Janice Campbell, Toni and Donald Hall, Richard and Natasha Pappas, and Robert Pappas; his grandchildren: Sandra and David Crowder, Jennifer and Jerry Bowne, Robert and Becky Peacock, McKenzie and Caroline Pappas; and his great-grandchildren: Jacob, Brandon, Alexa, and Jackson Crowder, Roman, Stanley and Erynn Peacock, with one more on the way.
The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.on Saturday, August 23 at DeVilbiss Funeral Home in Radford, with an informal memorial service to directly follow. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Jennifer Fund for cancer research (The Jennifer Fund – 2081 Plank Drive Blacksburg, Va, 24060).
