Thomas W. Pandolfo of Blacksburg, Va., formerly of Commack, N.Y., died at his home July 11, 2008. He was 94 years old.

Mr. Pandolfo was born March 15, 1914 in Manhattan, N.Y. He left school after the 9th grade in order to get a job to help his family during the Depression era. During World War II he was a welder at the Brooklyn Navy Yard. Later he worked as a production line supervisor at several defense-related companies on Long Island, N.Y., retiring in 1986 at age 72.

Mr. Pandolfo was active with the Boy Scouts for more than 50 years and was a District Commissioner for more than 30 years, earning many awards and distinctions during his service. After the death of his wife of 56 years, Angela, in 1994 Mr. Pandolfo returned to school and earned his GED in April, 1999 at the age of 85. In 2002 he moved to Blacksburg to be closer to family. He enjoyed backpacking, woodworking, and traveling.

Mr. Pandolfo is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Robert T. Pandolfo and Donna McNeill of Punta Gorda, Fla.,; his granddaughter and grandson-in-law, Elizabeth Pandolfo Briggs and Allen K. Briggs; and his great-grandsons, Allen R. Briggs and Grayson T. Briggs, all of Blacksburg, Va.

The family wishes to thank the owners and staff of Personal Care of Blacksburg for their love, care, and dedication, Sue and Michael Johnson, Diana Kennedy, Carolyn Prim, and Erin Johnson. The family also thanks Good Samaritan Hospice Care and Mr. Pandolfo’s many Blacksburg friends for their devotion and support, especially Sally and Jim Bohland and Lynne and Paul Knox.

There will be a memorial service at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 1205 Old Mill Road, Blacksburg Saturday, July 26, 2008 at 2:30 p.m. The family will receive friends immediately afterward at 14401 Stroubles Creek Road in the Foxridge complex. In lieu of flowers the family requests any memorial contributions to be sent to the Boy Scouts of America, Suffolk County Council, 7 Scouting Blvd., Medford, N.Y., 11763.
