The final train whistle blew for Marshall Wayne Page, 62, of Roanoke, who went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, May 8, 2012, after a short but courageous battle with gastric cancer. He was born November 13, 1949, in Giles County, to the late George and Thelma Page, and was raised in the small community of Berton, on the New River.

Always loving the outdoors, he walked and hunted in the mountains in the Green Valley community and fished on the New River, especially in Rocky Hollow. He shared great times with friends on fishing trips. Marshall also enjoyed bowling, softball, restoring classic cars and trucks and helping others with his handyman skills.

Marshall graduated in 1968 from Giles High School, and worked for a short time at the Radford Arsenal and the Celanese Corporation before beginning his 40 year career as a pipe fitter with Norfolk Southern. At the Shaffer’s Crossing Shop, he was affectionately known as “Blue”.

Marshall was a loving son, brother, husband, special son-in-law, brother-in-law, dad, Pop-paw, friend and neighbor. He easily cared for family, friends and even opened his home to his mother-in-law.

He was preceded by his parents; sister, Frances Page Dodd Hopkins; brothers, George “Buckeye” Page, Clarence Page and Daris Page. Surviving are his wife, Mary Anna Psathos Page; sons, Shayne Page and wife, Mary, of Roanoke, Derick Page and wife, Karin, of Fort Collins, Colo.; granddaughter, Grace Page; mother-in-law, Jennie Psathos, of Roanoke; sisters, Peggy Stafford Shockley, Margaret Page Sumpter; brothers-in-law, Danny Psathos and wife, Linda, Anthony Psathos and wife, Trish; special friend, Alex Garrison; along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins; and canine companion, Kody.

In lieu of flowers family asks that memorials to be made to Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, 314 Turner Road, Salem, VA 24153 or to Rescue Mission, P.O. Box 11525, Roanoke, Va. 24022.

A funeral service celebrating Marshall’s life will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, May 10, 2012, in Simpson Funeral Home with the Rev. Father Louis Benoit and the Rev. Deacon Eric Surat officiating. Interment will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. Friends may visit with the family Wednesday, May 9, 2012, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
