Overstreet, Michael Brent

Michael Brent Overstreet, 54, of Blacksburg, died on Saturday, January 12, 2013, at his home. He was born in Roanoke, Va., on January 26, 1958, to the late Thomas and Hattie Grant Overstreet. He is also preceded in death by a brother, Larry Overstreet. He fought a courageous battle with metastatic cancer of the appendix, a rare form of cancer. He was a member of the Hokie Club and an avid sports fan. He also loved coaching his sons and loved his family time. He is survived by his wife of 29 years, Anne Caverly Overstreet; sons, Jacob Thomas Overstreet, of Martinsville, Va., and Daniel Robert Overstreet, of Blacksburg; brother-in-law, Dr. Robert and Maggie Caverly; nephews, Will Caverly and wife, Sarah, and Matt Caverly, both of Pennsylvania; and father- in-law and mother-in-law, Bob and Janet Caverly, of Christiansburg. A Rite of Christian Funeral Service will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Thursday, January 17, 2013, in the St. Mary’s Catholic Church with Father Remi Sojka officiating. Interment will follow in the Memorial Gardens of the New River Valley, Blacksburg. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. on Wednesday evening, January 16, 2013, at the McCoy Funeral Home, with a Rosary Service at 8:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 1205 Old Mill Street, Blacksburg, VA 24060, or to the Advocate Center, 1024 Park Ave, NW, P.O.
