Otey, Jr., Andrew Jackson

Andrew Jackson Otey Jr., 53, passed away on Sunday, December 27, 2020. He was born in Montgomery County, VA, on June 9, 1967.

Andrew worked for MCPS for 28 years. He loved being outdoors. He loved animals especially his fur babies at home.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Barbara Otey; mother-in-law & father-in-law, Dorothy and Jack Sawyers; sister-in-law and her husband, Nancy and Larry Lytton; grandparents, Marvin and Mildred Hinkley; uncles, Marvin “Fuzzy” Hinkley, Teddy Hinkley, Carlos Moore, and Danny Hunter.

Andrew is survived by his wife of 10 years, Peggy Sawyers; daughter, Rose Sawyers; great-nephew, Keishaun Mosier II; his dad, Andrew Otey Sr; brother, Richard Otey; aunt, Marie Hinkley; brothers-in-law and sister-in-law, Steven Sawyers (Karen), Randy Sawyers (Joyce), Linda Dowdy; as well as several other aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Andrew never met a stranger. He was always making people smile when they were sad. He was always joking with people. Andrew loved his family and loved helping others. He would literally give the shirt off his back and the last dollar out of his pocket to help someone in need.

Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, December 30, 2020, at 2 p.m. in the Horne Funeral Home Chapel, with Pastor T. Michael Bond officiating. Interment will follow in Roselawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the Funeral Service.

He will be greatly missed.
