Oliver, Joyce Madeline Agnew

oliver joyce agnewJoyce Madeline Agnew Oliver, 85, was promoted to heaven on Saturday June 1, 2013 with her family by her side.  Joyce was born to the late Joseph Johnson and Dorcie Agnew, in West Virginia on June 30, 1927.  Joyce was a strong and loving woman with a passion for helping others especially her dear friends in the community.  She was a dental assistant to Dr. Carlyle Gregory for 42 years before their retirement and was loved by all she met.  Her interests included gardening, bragging about her family to visitors, soap operas, sewing, cooking, reading, crafts and making baby blankets and quilts. She attended Gateway Baptist Church in Lusters Gate, Blacksburg, Virginia for most of her life.
She was greeted in heaven by loving family members, her husband of 50 years, Marshall Watkins Oliver, her parents, her brother Henry Lynwood Agnew and his wife, Eunice and her great grandson Garrett Simmers.

She is survived by her sister, Madge Agnew Neel and her husband Kenneth Neel of Newport Virginia; and Joyce’s children and their spouses, Lonnie Oliver, of Blacksburg; Connie and David Ridout of Fairlawn; Julia and Eddie Simmers, of Radford and B. Steven and Tamra Oliver, of Blacksburg.  She is also survived by her grandchildren Christina Ridout Ricci and Tony Ricci; Renee and Ben Mitchell; David N. Ridout; Garnett Eddie Jr. and Mendy Simmers, Kelly and Rachel Simmers, Daryn and Ashley Simmers; Eva Oliver, and Joyce’s beloved ten great-grandchildren. She is also survived by adopted family Dr. David and Kendra Kohl; Kasey and Rachel Kohl and their two children; and Kyle and Kayleigh Kohl. The family would like to thank special friends of the family Sandra Pilotte, Jeanny Carter and Tina Hamlin for their loving care and support.

A viewing will be held at 6 to 8 pm Tuesday, June 4,2013 at McCoy Funeral Home of Blacksburg.  With services to be held in the Gateway Baptist Church with Rev. Scott Southers and Rev. Dewey O. Weaver, Jr. officiating on Wednesday, June 5, 2013 at 11:00 am.

Her earthly family and friends will miss Joyce but know that she is enjoying heavenly family and friends she has long missed.  We know she will always be watching over us making sure that we’re “not doing anything that you’d be shamed for your Granny to see you do.”
